I am in favor of continuing the momentum because we have invested much energy and efforts to get the reunion rolling. To some people like myself who has summer classes, the dates are more important than place.
I dug into my file and found that there are several Caribbean's cruises to choose from on the web site of www.vacationstogo.com:
Deal #31411 (5days) Aug 8-13 Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Cayman Islands, Cozumel Mexico, back to FL.
#14844 (6days) Aug 9-15 Ft. Lauderdale, Key West, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, back to FL
#21126 (5days) Aug 10-15 Tampa, FL, Cayman islands, Cozumel ,Mexico, Tampa
#18320 (5days) Aug 10-15 Miami, FL, Turks & Caicos islands, Bahamas, Miami
For those who had originally intended to go to the SD-Mexico cruise, will you be interested in one of these choices (or more options can be suggested by the agent)? Maybe I should check with my former roommates, and Jen will check the cohort in Bay-Area to pick the most popular cruise option. Classmates in Taiwan who are interested can coordinate with Hong Bird. These 3 group representatives can then coordinate and work out a plan and post it on the IE79 web site. This will reduce email traffic before a good plan is published. Thanks.

Subject: RE: 2009 Reunion Cruise
Below is my comment:
1. Do we still want to hold the 30 years re-union? I vote yes with two hands. After all, memory is what we have left from the good old days. Let's create more good memory.
2. If yes, when and where? I still think Cruise is the best way so everybody can relax and enjoy. Other choices are Hawaii (to echo Hong bird's suggestion) or Caribbean (both will take longer time), or San Diego to Cabo San Lucus (4 days)
Regards, Jack Hi all, The 8/8/2009 5 days cruise from San Diego to Mexico has been cancelled by Carnival. The agent will contact the people who enrolled this trip and provide a refund. I think it is a good time to discuss: 1. Do we still want to hold the 30 years re-union? 2. If yes, when and where? Thanks! Jen -----Hi all, If any one wants to reserve the Cruise cabin please see attached e-mails for detailed information. You can directly contact the agent. "Deposit of $50 per cabin is due on August 22. The agent can extend this at least one time. A second deposit of $200 per person is due on April 10. The final payment is due on June 9." Jen -----Dear IE79ers: 長江後浪推前浪,前浪趴在沙灘上。"quoted from Mike Hu's poem in email Sorry, my PC cannot write Chinese. I am so glad to see the "Hurray" news for the son of Prof. Jan. Now I like to share with you an event about Ourselves—the 30th anniversary reunion—let us board a cruise ship from San Diego to the Baja tip of Mexico, and we will have some time lying on the beach, like Mike's poem says. My former roommates during our sophomore and junior year in Shi-Jai room 219(?) had recently decided to pioneer a small re-union. After several rounds of voting, we (Darwen Rau, Robert Wang, Jack Fu, and me) had reached a consensus date and trip: August 8-13, 2009. See the trip price and schedule in below. Currently, we are still waiting for Jack Fu to contact the agent and find out possible group rates and deposit due dates, etc. We selected this cruise with a vision in mind—that more IE79ers can join us together! This cruise will be easier than other cruises for classmates flying in from Taiwan . The time and cost are also more feasible for work leave and school vacation because Alaska and Hawaii cruise all require 7 days and above. It is hard to plan one year ahead, but at least we four and spouses (including two THU alumni, Li Ju-Shu and Sharon Lian) are committed to go. If you are interested in going, please email me at jwei@nd.edu If we get high response, we will then form committees to plan more details. Warmest Regards, Jerry
